The Service: You pay a monthly fee (can be paid upfront for the year) $14.95 per month. There are multiple packages available that range from every other month to as follows:
- 3-month package ($43.50, savings of $1.50);
- 6-month package ($84, savings of $6);
- 12-month package ($162, savings of $17).
You create a profile and are presented with options for fragrances to add to your queue, select the fragrances and order them based on what you want to try and when and it is as easy as that. You are not limited to the recommendations made, you can explore their entire catalog… and let me tell you it is large. The selected fragrance is prepared and ships at the beginning of the month. You can re-organize your queue to select what fragrances or products you want to receive first.
If you aren’t sure of what a perfume/cologne smells like then you can read through the notes and feedback from other members. I think it is a nice feature that suggestions for appropriate times of year and occasions are included as well. With such a large catalog it is nice to have some guidance. Again, you can wear whatever you want, whenever you want… suggestions and feedback are solely that.
Products Offered: Over the years this company has expanded their catalog of products exponentially. They not only offer a wide variety of perfumes/colognes
, you can purchase designer makeup, their pallets of makeup “Deck of Scarlet”, their lotions/candles/body scrubs/lotion. I have tried all the Scentbird branded products, and they are of excellent quality. I look forward to trying a Deck of Scaret pallet soon. I found their lotions, lib balm, and body scrub to be surprisingly hydrating. The candles burn slowly and evenly, and throw a lot of scent.
Communication/Customer Service: I feel that communication is good- you get a tracking number every month when your order ships. You can also check status online and it will tell you when your order starts processing. I have only had to contact customer service once for a faulty sprayer, they immediately sent me a new one- I found their response time to be excellent.
Value/Who Can Benefit Most: If you are into fragrances then in many instances the price per ML for Scentbird is a far better deal than with other decant services. The website ease of use makes this an excellent choice for fragrance novices to snobs. I initially started subscribing to expand my nose and get some good wear time in when I first started getting heavy into fragrance. You do not need to be heavy into fragrance to benefit/enjoy this service. I know a lot of people who never buy full bottles of perfume and instead just switch their scent up every month!!! You get enough fluid to last a month so this is totally an option for the minimalist. Back to value for a minimalist- it is a good deal over the span of a year to have 12 different scents and no clutter for only $180 (the price of 1-2 bottles for many)…. just sayin :).
If you are new to fragrance in general and don’t know where to begin, then the site can make recommendations based on the types of scents that you like. You can also read through feedback from other members as far as how something smells/wears. The site makes recommendations for times of year/occasions to wear specific scents, further making selection easier. I am a firm believer that fragrance is unisex- it all depends on what you are comfortable wearing, you can select anything from their catalog.
Overall: There is something for everyone with this company. Over the years Scentbird has done a wonderful job expanding not only their selection, but perfecting their processes.
